#5702: Quire Feedback
Status: To-do

In the IOS app, when scrolling tasks up and down the touch screen using the fingers, the menu bars on top will follow and hide below the top of the screen when scrolling down, and unhide when scrolling back up. In this process, when the menu bar becomes hidden/unhidden, the whole screen scolling speed accelerates. This acceleration is very annoying, merely making the app unusable to me as a long term user. The acceleration provides a jerky, uncalm, and undefined feeling when using the interface and is unnecessary. Instead, the scroll speed of the tasks and the hiding of the menus should follow the exact momement and speed of the fingers sliding up/down the touch screen, for a calmer and smoother UX. I think this is more standard behaviour in IOS. Please consider fixing this. Thanks!

The menu jumping all over and jerky list scrolling keeps bugging me, and is totally absurd compared to the smooth behaviour of other apps. I have now noticed it also happens that the menu gets stuck inbetween hidden and visible if the list is scrolled slowly, and also that for some lengths of lists, the menu automatically reappears from hidden after a second releasing the finger from screen, and when barely touching the screen again it hides. You must look over this! Since the start, you at Quire have always been so good at killing bugs and improving UX. Don’t miss this one!

Hi, I am so sorry that we couldn't see if there's any issue with the scrolling speed when trying to reproduce it with our devices. We tested with multiple devices across platforms, but we didn't really see the problem. I know it's frustrating, but we escalated your issue and thoroughly discussed it with our Dev team. We still couldn't see when the scrolling speed was buggy in your previous video.

I understand it's frustrating, but please bear with us here. Please take another video with your phone and point out the exact second that the issue happened, so we can let our Dev team know again. Sorry for all of the inconvenience.

Hi, We have investigated the scrolling acceleration issue you mentioned. However, after trying on various devices, we could not identify any abnormal scrolling behavior. When scrolling up, the menu bar is hidden, and the speed behaves as expected without any noticeable acceleration. The same applies when scrolling down and the menu bar reappears.

As you can see in the attached video, we tested scrolling at both slow and fast speeds, and the speed remains consistent with the finger movement. Thank you.

Hi, We understand your frustration. While we acknowledge that this issue may be bothersome, as it does not impact the functionality of Quire, we cannot promise that it will be prioritized in our roadmap. Please be assured that we have noted down your feedback, and our team will consider it as we continue improving Quire. Thank you for your understanding.

Ok, sure. This is easy to reproduce when you have a long enough list that extend below the screen. What can’t be recorded is the speed of my finger which is much slower than the screen scrolling in the moment the menu hides/unhides.

Any fix for this in sight!?

Daniel Ljunggren, Jun 6, 2023

Hello, thanks for the response. You do not see the problem because you scroll past it too fast! It is appearent only the exact moment when the menu folds and unfolds from the top. Please try again scrolling more slowly as the meny drops down/up and you'll see it. It is very annoying when idlely browsing lists and provides a jerky feeling. I'm using iOS on iPhone 12 mini, latest updates.

Hello! Again, please prioritize! This issue for sure impacts the functionality of Quire! So to the extent I’m soon looking for another service after so many years with Quire. It’s very annoying with short lists that are being edited constantly - the menu bar and list jumping up and down out of sync with my finger drives me insane, unlike any other app. I cannot be alone!?

Hi @daniellj, Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce this. Could you kindly provide a screen recording of the acceleration issue? This would help our team to better understand the issue and troubleshoot further. I am looking forward to hearing back from you!

Golda, Mar 23, 2023

Hi Daniel, Thank you for the screen recording. I have passed this issue to our team to troubleshoot further. Once we have any updates, we will let you know. Thank you for your understanding.

Golda, Mar 23, 2023

Hi, Unfortunately, I don't have any updates to share at this time. To the best of my knowledge, this request has not been prioritized yet. Rest assured, I will keep you informed of any future updates. Thank you for your understanding.

Please prioritize! This is an odd behaviour on iOS devices. Check out for example Safari how it handles menu bar hiding in a smooth fashion.

Daniel Ljunggren, Jun 9, 2023

Ok. I think I’m not explaining it very well, or perhaps it explains why this feature/bug/annoyance exist... However, to me, the behaviour is very prominent and easily reproduced all the time, even visible in your own recording above, although you scroll past it quickly. I’m not sure a new recording would help to demonstrate the effect better since I do not know how to record my finger movement accross the screen.

To reproduce, please view a sufficiently long list. Tap the center of the screen and scroll it downwards by moving the finger upwards. Exactly at the moment when the menu bar on the top of the screen is about to hide/collapse you will notice that the list scrolls faster than the finger movement, following the speed of the collapsing menu bar, sort of making a jump one to two list items, rather than following the finger exactly. The same thing happens in reverse as the menu reappears when scrolling back upwards (moving finger downwards). Do it slowly!

Another way to see it is to watch the position of your finger: Take a note and place your finger at a particular list item and move your finger upwards (list scrolls downwards) until the menu bar hides. Then take a new note on which list item the finger is pointing at. You will notice that the finger is at one or two list item below the one you first started at. The same thing happens in reverse as the list is scrolled back up. The finger does not stay on the same list item after scrolling, proving the list accelerates relative the finger movement, happening while the menu bar is hidden/unhidden.

Solution: For a less jerky scrolling UX, please remove the extra scrolling speed added when the menu bar hides and unhides so that list items stay analogue to the finger movement at all times.

In other words: Let the list scrolling be completely independent of the menu bar behaviour.

Hi, After discussing your feedback with our team, I am afraid that this won't be prioritized just yet. I'm sorry about the bad news here. Thank you for your understanding.

Golda, Jul 4, 2023

Ok, too bad. Can’t see how you don’t consider this top priority from a UX perspective.
