Any way we could get another level of organizational structure above project?
I wear a number of hats and have so many projects that I often find myself using the project level as more of a folder representing an area of responsibility containing tasks which actually represent projects.
The structure would be better reflected if I could group projects by area of responsibility - e.g. marketing, IT, memberships, exhibits, etc.

Hi Steve, One possible solution is to add different organizations like Marketing, IT, Memberships, etc., and then add projects to the organization they belong. This way, the organizations act as folders for your projects. Also, we have different categories including Favorite, Recent, All and Archived for your projects in the sidebar. They can be folders for your projects too. Let me know if it will help! Fyi, we will have a new feature called "subprojects" where you will be able to add subprojects in a project and treat them as folders. Once this is ready, it may help with organizing as well. 😃

Hi Steve, Right, I agree. 😃
Crystal, Jan 3, 2017
Hi Steve, Got it. Thanks for the clear explanation! We shall take the add buttons into consideration too. 😃 By the way, at the moment you can collapse the categories (eg. Favorite, Recent, All, etc.) in the sidebar so the list of projects will not be too long.

With regard to my original inquiry, any chance we will see the ability to create custom categories? I see projects and tasks as "actionable items". What I need is simply a level of organization/grouping.

"This way, the organizations act as folders for your projects."
Yeah, but what happens if I do in fact have multiple roles for multiple organizations? I have found that, more often than not, repurposing a feature in that way is less than ideal and frequently results confusion or clutter down the road.

Hi @crystal, Is there an ability to create folders for archived projects? Our archived list is starting to grow and we're looking for a quick way to reference them. Or to sort archived projects alphabetically?
Alan Quach, Nov 30, 2017
Thanks for the swift answer, @crystal - we're looking forward to it 👍.

Hi Piotr, This feature will be included in Quire Mark II (aka Quire 2.0), our No.1 priority at the moment and we are currently looking at the first half of 2017. 😃
Crystal, Nov 10, 2016
Yes, that would be great, Crystal, as long as the custom categories appeared alongside the predefined ones. However, I would prefer the creation link/button at the top. (Same with Add Project and Add Organization.) Itseems odd to have to scroll through a list to get to them. Either that or do something similar to the way tasks are added.
Steve Schacht, Nov 12, 2016
Hi Alan, No at the moment. Have you tried Blink Search (Ctrl+B, or Cmd+B for Mac) to quickly go to an archived project? It might help. 😃
Crystal, Nov 30, 2017
Hi Crystal,
Is there any ETA on that subproject feature? Even a rough estimate (by no means I want an actual date, I know how these things tend to work out) would be great.
Piotr Polewicz, Nov 10, 2016
Hi Steve, I see. Would an option to let you add custom categories, for example a button at the bottom of the sidebar, be close to what you have in mind?
Crystal, Nov 11, 2016
Not sure if this was ever implemented, but I don't see a way to add "sub-projects." I work with multiple projects for multiple clients, and I do NOT want to add an organization for each client. Is there a way to group projects within an organization?
Veronica Van Dyke, Aug 3, 2021
Hi Veronica - Unfortunately, this hasn't been implemented yet. I will let you know if we have any updates from the team. Thanks!

Hi all, The folder feature is available in Quire, allowing you to create organizational structures underneath each organization to better sort and categorize your projects. For more detailed information about Folder, please refer to this guide. Thank you.
