Congratulations on your software, it is really nice and innovative. With a few more features it will be ready to take on the established offerings.
One of those features is calculating the end date with the start date and task duration automatically. Also vice versa, calculate start date with end date and duration. Currently the duration is calculated with the start and end dates only.
This is a major tool for planning and estimating the end of a project. This plus calculating start/end dates automatically by taking into account subtasks/predecessors/successors will take you to the top of the project management tools. Check how MS Project for the web (free trial) does it which is the cleanest of the current solutions.
Thank you
Hi, I will assist you as Peggy is currently on leave.
We understand that you expect the calculation to be based on 8 hours of working days. We will bring your feedback to our internal team for further discussion. While we cannot promise that the implementation will be made soon, we will keep you posted with any updates in the future.
The other issue is that features like Timeline view use the Due Date so the Est. Date is not shown. Is it possible that the Est. Date is used for the Due Date in other parts of the app?
In the Timeline view, you will need to go to the detail panel to view the custom field. Alternatively, you can switch to the Table view, where the custom field will be visible without having to access the detail panel. Here's the guide for more details: https://quire.io/guide/quire-table-view/
Thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion.
So to confirm, is the automatic calculation currently an enhancement request? If so can I see it.
Thanks!

Hi Andres,
We appreciate your feedback and your positive review of our app.
We'd like to clarify your feedback to ensure we understand it correctly. Are you referring to the total duration of the entire project?
Currently, you have the option to have the system automatically calculate the total duration needed for individual tasks by enabling the duration column. By adding a start date and a due date to each task, the duration will be calculated automatically and displayed in the column.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for prompt response.
My request is: Calculate automatically the end date, when I input the start date and duration. Or Calculate the start date, when I input the end date and duration.
The same should occur with parent tasks, when the start and end dates of subtasks have been calculated the parent tasks inherit these dates automatically.
Thanks

Thank you for the guide.
It does calculate the date but it's difficult to use since it's taking into account a 24h day which works for a 24h work day. Is is possible to calculate the Est. Date using 8h workdays?
The other issue is that features like Timeline view use the Due Date so the Est. Date is not shown. Is it possible that the Est. Date is used for the Due Date in other parts of the app?
I appreciate the formula feature but in this case I consider it a workaround that does not fulfill the request. Does having the formula option mean that my enhancement request will not be added?
I think that this feature is what differentiates the top PM solutions from the rest. I understand it can be complex because you take into account parent/subtasks, workday duration, weekends, the 4 types of dependencies, and all this on a per task level. The usefulness is that you can calculate the Due Date of any complex project with ease and if you make any task date changes all the dates are updated automatically. One of the objectives of these apps is that the calculations are made by the system so you don't spend time doing so and risk committing mistakes like on a spreadsheet.
Not many softwares have this automatic calculation (MS Project and Smartsheet do) but please check how others are incorporating it. https://clickup.canny.io/feature-requests/p/automatic-start-datedue-date-based-on-start-date-due-date-or-duration
Your software is really good and I really want to commit to it because it has the almost all the main features in a simple UI without the bloat others do but this is really important. Thank you for reviewing and answering my questions.

Hello Andres,
You can achieve this using our Custom Fields and Formula feature.
First, create a custom field named "Est. Due" and set its type to Formula. In the Formula input, enter start + duration. With this setup, when you enter the start date and duration for your task, our system will automatically calculate the due date.
To calculate the start date instead, simply change start in the formula to due.
So, the formula would be: due - duration.
Here's a guide that explains more on the Formula feature.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi, I'm not entirely clear on your question. Are you referring to viewing the timeline for enhancement requests, or are you asking about another aspect? Thank you.

Hi, I want to know if there will be automatic due date/start date calculation with duration without using an extra column with formula calculation. If so, where can I see it tracked? Thanks
Andres, May 7, 2024
Hi Andres, Your feedback has been forwarded to our team. While we can't promise immediate implementation due to ongoing projects, we've noted down your suggestions and will keep you updated on any updates.
Regarding your request about tracking your request, we don't have public tracking for feature requests. However, you're welcome to share your feedback in our Quire Feedback Forum, which is open to the public. Alternatively, you can email us at feedback@quire.io.
Rest assured, every feedback we receive is carefully examined, and we discuss it in our meetings for further consideration. Thank you.
