What a milestone is for
A marker on the Timeline that several sprints aim at. It is not a deadline handed to the team, and it is not a commitment made on the team's behalf.
When the scope and the date disagree, the scope moves. If that is not true in your organization, you are running a fixed-scope fixed-date project and calling it Agile, which is the most expensive of the available options.
How to forecast it honestly
Take your rolling 3-sprint velocity, count the remaining points in this release, and state the answer as a range. "Sprints 3 to 5" is honest. "September 18" is a guess wearing a suit.
Re-forecast every sprint. A forecast that never changes is not being updated.
