#1276: Quire Feedback
Status: Completed
Tag: Resolved

We have different tags across a big list, the filter is good, but sometimes I'd would like to have a feature where we can sort the tasks by tags, for example, we have "art" tasks and "code", sometimes it's easier to have an overview of the whole project and see how many tasks are left for a certain department, but we have to sift through lots of things or use the filter to "calculate" manually, but never all tags at the same time.

Currently my workaround is to name each task according to the tag name so I can use the sort by "Name" function to group the tasks.

@joshuarobinson Did you see this ?

Kjennings, Oct 9, 2019

Thanks!

+1 for this !!!! YES YES YES

I have a shopping list and each store is a tag and when I open my shopping list I want to sort by tag so I can see each shopping item together.

Some people make a shopping task with check boxes in teh description. The reason that I don't do that is because many shopping items belong to other super-tasks (projects) . I have stuff for work and for events and when I look at it all together I need to see the shopping list sorted by tag.

Please +1 for this!

Hi @kjennings , we are working on that feature, please kindly wait. We will let you know once it's available. Thank you.

Filtering Tags using the Boolean OR is a big need to have for me

Kjennings, Sep 1, 2019

I want to say that the current way that tags work as AND oporations, is great and should continue to be the default but the other day I too ran into a case where I wanted to use OR. I did find a work around but I can see how allowing this in search like Todoist does, would be a desired feature.

So ...

+1

Hi Lili, Yes, you are correct โ€” we will show tasks that have BOTH โ€œartโ€ and โ€œcodeโ€ tags and not either. Will pass your suggestion to the team. Thanks!

Hi Kennethwjennings, Our goal is to keep Quire interface as simple and minimalist as possible. From our past experience, new users will have negative experiences if the interface gets too complicated and eventually lose momentum and motivation with their projects.

Our team is trying to improve Quire while maintaining the clean interface, and it can be quite challenging. We donโ€™t want to design a platform that freaks users out because of the features maze. We hope you understand why we will need more time to implement this feature. Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜

Peggy For those of us wth MANY Tasks and MANY Tags. We NEED to FILTER using the Boolean Or. SORTING by Tag will not meet this need because how would we decide how to sort tasks with multiple tags? It would get complex like the MS EXCEL sorts. Please explain why adding a Boolean OR is such a challenge from a UI point of view. We are not asking for anything new in the screen layouts. We just NEED to be able to select for Tag1 or Tag2 or Tag3 or Tag4..... Having filtered by Tag we would have selected fewer Tasks so a sort would be less important. I think we can all agree that a filter is more important than a sort. Sorting by a field or attribute is a poor substitute for filtering by the same attribute or condition.

@kjennings - filtering tags with Boolean AND, OR, NOT is available now! ๐Ÿ‘

Holy Cow

Thank you

AMAZING response by the QUIRE development team

BRAVO

Kjennings, Oct 9, 2019

Hi Andrew, Unfortunately, Quire doesnโ€™t support filter display all tasks that have either tag, because the UI design is quite challenging.

Peggy, Feb 12, 2019

The Boolean or filter is how Quire can deliver an overall view across multiple projects that we all need to deal with at a particular time. Joshua's shopping list example with different tags for each store is an example of my own need and use case. With Boolean or, Quire CAN deliver POWERFUL cross project views. Please put a Boolean or filter on the To Do list for list view and board view

Kjennings, Sep 9, 2019

Hi Lili, Thank you for the suggestion. Have you considered filtering by multiple tags? For example, filter by tags โ€œartโ€ and โ€œcodeโ€ to only see tasks with these tags. Perhaps it would help.

Crystal, Sep 28, 2018

Peggy

I think that I found it.

It was hidden inside Quire's very clean UI

Kjennings, Oct 14, 2019

Hi Crystal, I think what Lili was thinking of (correct me if I'm wrong) is exactly what the title of the task is : sort by Tag. Not filter. Because you want to be able to group all tasks that have the same tag together the same way you can do it with priority or assignee, and still have this global view of all tasks. Would that be possible?

Jonathan, Jan 8, 2019

Hi all, sorting by tags is available now. ๐ŸŽ‰

Peggy, Sep 17, 2019

Hi Team Quire

Sorting by TAGS fills a big hole. Not perfect yet....... BUT MUCH BETTER with sorting by TAGS. We still need to filter both by AND is it is today; but also by OR

Kjennings, Sep 29, 2019

Hi Peggy

Please post a link I to a demonstration of filtering / selecting tags withe a Boolean or. I cannot find this anywhere though I am sure it is there.

Kjennings, Oct 11, 2019

Hi Lili, Let us think about the idea of Sorting by tag and if anything, we shall keep you posted. FYI, you can also add the projects to a Smart Folder and see a global view of all tasks across multiple projects. Though, it is currently limited to 5 projects. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Michelle, Jan 8, 2019

Yes, that was what I mean Jonathan, thanks

Lili, Jan 8, 2019

Peggy, I understand and like your overall strategy. Thank you for keeping Quire very clan looking. That said I still do not understand how enabling a Boolean OR filter would overly complicate Quire's UI. ๐Ÿ˜„

Kjennings, Sep 7, 2019

Hi Crystal, thanks but multiple tags doesn't work - because for when I select multiple it doesn't show any tasks, because I suppose I do not have tasks that have both "art" and "code" tag, so they don't show, it seems like it only shows the tasks that contain all these tags at the same time.

Lili, Oct 2, 2018

Hi @crystal. You'd mentioned that filtering by multiple tags will display only tasks with both tags (a Boolean AND). Is there a way to display all tasks that have either tag (a Boolean OR)?
