#1321: Quire Feedback
Status: Completed

Right now, when you to the overview, the project progress graph/statistics are considering all those tasks to be equal.

In reality, with the neat task hierarchy mechanism you have, we find ourselves splitting up the work in a lot of detail. This is great for planning out the work and figuring out what we need to do, but we also end up with a lot of very small tasks.

It would be nice to be able to somehow add an estimate/weight to tasks and have the project overview take that into account.

For example:

  • add an option to enable weights/estimates on a project (not all projects need them, so no need to add that for everyone)
  • when enabled, allow the user to specify a few value and labels (e.g. if you like T-shirt sizes, you could do S -> .5, M -> 1, L -> 2, XL -> 4) and specify a default value (e.g. M in this case)
  • in the tasks, have an extra field to override the default weight for those tasks that need another estimate/weight

⭐️ I have merged your post with this post #2570 already covering this request. Feel free to add your comments to that thread.

Hi @crystal, what is the state of the “custom fields” feature? Is there any plan to add some scrum methodology related features, e.g. sprint, velocity, reports, etc.?

I was about to put a similar suggestion myself in the feedback area when I found this topic. I also think that task time/effort estimates could be very useful, especially when the announced native calendar view arrives. Time estimates could help fill the day with realistic expectation, avoiding overfillling with tasks taking too much time for one single day. A warning could be issued in that case. Also, estimates could help open up Quire more in the agile direction, with some nice charts at the project overview screen, like a burn-down chart and similar. Right now I am mostly coming from a paper-based task management idea ( https://davidseah.com/node/the-emergent-task-planner/ ) which starts the day with listing the tasks, estimating their time and blocking them out (arranging) in the time-table section. Something similar could perhaps work in the upcoming calendar view, too.

Hi Crystal,

Custom fields would help to register the estimate/weight, but then the next step would be to allow the overview to report on the custom field value instead of on the task count.

Hi Gert, We will let users add “custom fields” in the future so they can add a value (eg., weight, estimate, duration) to each task. It should help when available. For now, you can try use tags for such a purpose.

Hi @Nemanja - It's in our plan to support "Custom Fields" in the future. However, currently we are working on something else right now. If we have any updates regarding custom fields, I will keep you posted in this thread.
