Following my previous feedback where I praised how many miles ahead Quire is to anything else, I'd now like to help you get even better!
Please consider implementing the following and you will get lightyears ahead of competitors. First things first.
• For lists, add a new task status "Backlog" that is visible under All Tasks but not under Active Tasks, similar to status "Completed",
The motivation is to create a time symmetry around the task statuses To-Do/InProgress in such a way that planned (Backlog) tasks (not yet ready for To-Do) are made invisible from the Active Tasks view (and when status Completed is obviously wrong way to get such tasks out-of-the way),
A new predefined status "Backlog" would open up for having a default board "root" which is automatically populated with all tasks of status To-Do/InProgress/Completed,
The Backlog status should be available for all tasks, and not only those added to a board, and have a negative "progress" percentage treated by the system as coming before To-Do,
I believe the described functionality is not available today, not even for tasks added to a board,
My suggestion is that "Backlog" items have no icon and that "To-Do" items has the icon of a unfilled ring (representing progress 0%),
Backlog tasks should not show up in My Tasks even if having assigned date or assignee,
User setting should determine if new task is set by default to status Backlog or To-Do.
• For lists, add new task status 'Not fixed' or "Closed" or similar,
The motivation is that there are many times an uncompleted task is no longer relevant and you would like to get it out-of-the-way, and putting it into status Completed is obviously the wrong way to do it or you don’t want to delete it.
• Text input using magnifying glass in iOS app.
• Ability to complete task viewed under MY TASKS in iOS app by swiping task to the right and tick check box.
• Recurring tasks should obey setting 'Tasks: Add to top' or perhaps even better add it next to the original task - at least not to the end as currently happens.
• Make sure locale SE sorts alphabetically.
Hi Peggy,
Thanks for the quick response.
• Backlog I see how you consider the List View to be a kind of backlog with respect to the Board View. However, considering were Quire came from before boards were introduced it is not possible to put items in a "Backlog" status using the List View alone. All items are either Active or Completeted, and there is no way to get items out-of-the-way in the list without turning them into completed. In order to get a Backlog functionality using boards one would either have to put all non-backlog items into a board manually and use the list as backlog, or, as you say create a new "backlog" column in the board. Both alternatives means a lot of extra work moving items around and would take away the great great strength of Quire of being able to work only in the hierarchic list view mode (especially in the mobile app)!!! Also, the latter alternative is not practical because it would require changing the To-Do status progress to something larger than 0% in order to put the Backlog status progress to 0% and thus make Backlog come before To-Do in the progress flow! Also, it will require tedious work to get this functionality across all Projects by defining custom new boards everywhere. Altogether, the current situation where there is no status reserved for "inactive" items that are automatically treated as coming before "active" To-Do/In Progress items means the List View can never be considered a true "Backlog". It really makes no sense with backlog items in Active status, nor with active items in a backlog!
In contrast, by simply introducing a true Backlog status level in the list view like described above Quire would add much strength to the List View without otherwise affecting how boards and lists currently play together. All it requires is an item status that is not considered Active, at the opposite end of Completed!
Please, please bring these arguments to the devolopment team for consideration!
See Status levels reflecting the suggested default work flow attached.
• "Not fixed" or "Closed" Good suggestion. As a workaround I already have the tag "wontfix" for such items. But, a far more appealing solution would be to have an alternative ending to the progress bar at 100% such as a "Not fixed" status alongside the "Completed" status.
• Text input using magnifying glass in iOS app OK! I didn't know about the function to press and hold spacebar!
• Ability to complete task viewed under MY TASKS in iOS app Understood! But I use this view frequently in the iOS app to list upcoming tasks across all projects and find it takes an unnecessary step to first go into the task in order to complete the task...
• Make sure locale SE sorts alphabetically I mean that the swedish letters Å Ä Ö are not sorted correctly if one chooses to sort list alphabetically (language sv-SE).

Hi daniellj, Thanks for the detailed suggestions! 👍
- Backlog I understand where this suggestion is coming from. But our approach is a little different, we consider our list view as a Backlog. Maybe in board view, you could create a new column and named it as Backlog. Nevertheless, I will bring this to our team.
- “Not fixed' or "Closed" The workaround would be adding them to “Completed” column, and then give them a tag called “Not fixed” or "Closed".
- Text input using magnifying glass in iOS app. You could long press the spacebar on your phone keyboard, then you could move the cursor wherever you want without your fingers blocking the text.
- Ability to complete task viewed under MY TASKS in iOS app In our perspective, the My Tasks is for viewing purpose, you would need to go into certain tasks and tap on the circle to complete.
- Recurring tasks should obey setting 'Tasks: Add to top' We will look into this. Thanks for letting me know.
- Make sure locale SE sorts alphabetically. What do you mean by this?

Thanks for the suggestion Peggy. I can appreciate the power available in Quire. Using presence of tasks on Boards as a sort of indication of ”active status” together with listing tasks by ’filtering on board’ will be in the direction of where I want to go. It’s a good idea, but more of a work around. This method does not truely change the status of a backlog task in the way I suggest, and is definitly creating more task management overhead. I would still prefer Quire implements a ”inactive” backlog status to provide the option to work without boards. Any thoughts on that?

Hi daniellj,
- Backlog In the board view, click on the + sign at the upper right corner of To-Do column, choose "Add existing tasks", use the filter bar to filter: Board > None. This will bring out a list of tasks that aren't added to any board yet, you could view this list as the backlog. Hope this helps. 😃

Hi daniellj,
- Recurring tasks should obey setting 'Tasks: Add to top' This is now fixed. Thanks.

Hi daniellj, if you don’t want to switch to the board view, the workaround for seeing which tasks aren’t added in the board (backlog) in the list view can be done by clicking the filter icon, customize > Filter > Board > None.

+1 for the concept of a "Backlog"
