After I complained about too many notifications, I accidentally stumbled on the main feedback page. That was marked as "follow" and I unfollowed it. Problem solved! I had been unfollowing individual threads as they arrived, without realizing there was a master page. As usual, my concern was due to my own lack of learning. Quire is really great.
