#1975: Quire Feedback
Status: Completed

I ❤ that you all have implemented Kanban boards into the product!

However, they seem to be behaving much differently than any other Kanban product I've used. It's all by design, I'm sure, but the one thing that's throwing me off is being unable to set 2 Status (what I would otherwise refer to as columns) to the same progress percentage.

In my simplistic usage of "boards," (in Asana, Trello, MeisterTask, etc.), I've just had one board per project and you have different columns/lists within that board. The columns/list don't have a specific function to them in those products — which makes them flexible for different types of projects — whereas **it seems like Quire is restricting a Status ("column") to be exclusively used for tracking how far along a task (or series of tasks) is within the project.

Just my feedback: I think that might limit the overall flexibility of the Board functionality.**

Again, my preferred solution (to make Quire Kanban boards comparable to other Kanban board solutions) would be to default to a single Board per project and not impose any limits on the creation of the Status (aka "columns") within.

I'm loving the product... I'm just throwing out feedback as I use the product a little bit more. 👍

Hi Jason, thanks for this suggestion! I don’t quite understand your point on restricting a Status since we don’t restrict the number of column users want to create. I guess I am trying to understand why you would need to create 2 status for the same percentage. We allow users to create different columns with the same name, just with a different percentage.

Also for the single board per project, in Quire, we try to keep it more dynamic for most users, letting users create multiple boards for one project. For example, some users might use one board for one milestone, others might create one board for each department. I would love to know your thoughts! Thanks! 👍

An example of the limitation on percentages as a requirement is this. The user mentions wanting to have several columns with a status of 100% but are restricted due to the fact percentage values cannot be shared across multiple columns in the same board.

When I read this it seems to me the OP is describing the added requirement to set a percentage for a board column which can be restricting or unnecessary in some cases. During the setup of a new status it is required to specify a percentage, but the percentages do not determine position or any special event. Their function seems mostly aesthetic, and not as much of a tool as I would hope.

Board column percentages feel better as an option, per project, that can be toggled on and off as needed.
