FULL DISCLOSURE I came to Quire from Trello I am a single user and have not explored the group management and task sharing / management side of Quire. My use case is all about the visual display of my personal projects and tasks
I like Quire and I acknowledge that it more robust compared to Trello.
That said, I have to say the Quire is NOT a Kanban board.
Looking at a project through Quire is like a looking at spreadsheet instead of looking at a graph of the spreadsheet's data.
CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS because I like the power of Quire ONE Quire has a VERY steep learing curve compared to Trello because your team is trying to keep the pages so clean that you have to hide most of the features. Users have to really invest a LOT of time to discover the POWER of Quire.
TWO Quire needs to be more visual if it wants to compete with Kanban tools like Trello.
I switched from Trello to Quire to get sub tasks. With the benefit of hindsight I would not do it again. Quire is NOT visual enough for me. I want a visual MAP of my Projects and Tasks.
Quire Boards are pretty weak in what they display. Not even the ability o color code tasks manually or automatically by condition. I want somethink that looks like Trello or MS Sticky Notes and also supports sub tasks.
Most of my requests to Peggy who has been great answering my questions related to various ways to view and display my tasks / projects end up with Peggy telling me that this display or view is not possible.
Can you make Quire VISUAL like a graph of our tasks (with subtasks) instead of showing Boards that are no more than columns of tasks that must be assigned to boards by your users? Quire boards look like columns and rows in a spreadsheet. They were an afterthough and an add on that was supposed to look like a Kanban board. They do not look or work like a Kanban board
Answer to Question 2 Colours could be simply user selecteable and not condition depandant on Urgency or status or tag etc. Just let me select a background colour for the task. No need for differentiation of colour in subtasks. For the pupose of colour subtasks are the same as tasks. They still need to be highlighted, seen, focused on and completed.

Answer to your question 1 I mean something like Microsoft StickyNotes. A free Form display of ANY Task that I hve the priviledge to write to. Across Multiple Organizations and Across Multiple Project.
Think of it as my HOT LIST FOR THE DAY. Ideally These StickyNote Exerpts or EXPORTS from Quire could be displayed and moved FREE FORM anywhere on my desktop.
Maybe it would be better to do an API for MS StickyNotes and allow Quire users to select any task or subtask to export them to StickyNotes as a discrete Sticky Note. That makes today's work very visual. If a sticky note was edited MS StickyNotes could write back to Quire that the task was completed or deleted. New tasks might have to b opened in Quire

Question 3 Subtasks in this user selectable VISUAL DISPLAY are the same as tasks. Remenber subtasks just things that we must do to complete projects. This is about a VISUAL DISPLAY of what I must do at a select point in time based on what I think is important based on what I know today. This level of importance could all change based on external influences that I might not have any control over. LOOSE the idea of columns. You are sounding like an accountant working on a spreadsheet. This is not about columns and numbers. It is about letting users create a visual picture of what they must do today

I just found this today after posting my last comment

Answer to question 4. This is not so much a graph as a wish for the ability for individual users to take selected tasks and display them like Sticky Notes. Ideally each user could move these selected task around free form on their desktop. Imagine free form Sticky Notes or Trello items. At this Hot List Level the Task Sub Task relationship is less important. What is important is a visual picture of WHAT MUST I DO TODAY? Note that the Overview functinality of Quire is very limited. If I look Overview > Progress Stats for Quire Feedback I cannot drill down to see the detail of any of the stuff in the pie chart. It is simply a how much, how many display. What we need is a dashboard that we can drill down from in the same way that in Overview we CAN drill down to see the feedback from individual users. Keep up the good work!

Hi Kennethwjennings, thank you for your feedback! I have a few questions for you before I pass your suggestions on to our team.
- You mentioned a visual MAP of my Projects and Tasks. Would you mind explaining more on this? Even better if you can share with us the visual idea you have in mind. Do you mean in a board, you would like to see how tasks are related to each other?
- By color code, I am assuming you would like to see the entire task card to be different colors, e.g. root task in blue, subtasks in green?
- You mentioned you would like to see board supporting subtasks. We have thought about this before. But the visual design is quite challenging since there would be multiple levels of subtasks. The column widths are fixed, it’s difficult to show multiple levels of subtasks in one column. We have added a section in the detail panel to show the 1st level of subtasks. Would love to know more of your thoughts on this.
- Lastly, about the VISUAL like graph of our tasks (with subtasks)*, it would be great if you could share a visual example.
Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! 😃

Hi Kennethwjennings, I see. Basically, you would like a blank board without columns, then you can stick your tasks wherever you want on the board. (just like actual sticky notes). I think this is a wonderful concept and thank you for suggesting it. But our aim is to design Quire as a team collaboration tool. We worry that boards without columns will lose the context.
The HOT LIST you mentioned above is a list for users to organize tasks from different projects and organization. If you’re talking strictly about the “LIST”, we have the Smart Folder feature, which is the closest to your request. However, if you’re thinking about the “board” view, in the future, we plan on having boards for Smart Folder as well. Our team is working on improving Quire. Thank you for your suggestions!

@joshuarobison.biz I think you're quite an enthusiastic user of Quire, but you're trying to make Quire to behave like Trello, so why not use Trello from the first place? You've been quite active recently and keep leaving comments everywhere, but from what I see, you're trying to push everyone to use Quire the way you think it's the only correct way to use Quire.
The way you're using Trello boards as calendar view is very interesting, but if you're here meaning there's something wrong with Trello? When you say "In the current state of things, I cannot even think of a single use case for quire kanban boards", it's very subjective. I myself find Trello board very useful, but Quire board has its own charms as well. I think you've mistaken the whole point from the start, Quire isn't a replica of Trello, it's an independent product and I believe Quire people don't want to imitate or make Quire another Trello-lookalike tool. I think I've read some of their blog posts saying their Kanban board is for "focus state", which is contrast with their task list. You move some of the tasks from the task list to the board and work on the board, not to bring everything to the board - you have a task list for you to do so.
You've been working with Trello board and your mind is clearly fixated with how Trello board works, but keep an open mind with a new solution. Don't try to impose the way Trello works on Quire, just use Trello and leave us - Quire users - use Quire the way we'd like.
Just some thoughts. Great day!

Answer to queston 4 Quire users need a visual tool / list or display or Task and Sub Task Dashboard that helps them focus on and concentrate on the most imporant projects Tasks and subtasks to do that very day. I imagine Quire users (and perhaas their managers in a later version) reviewing and updating this HOT LIST at the end of each day and then at the start of the next day based on chnges overnight. workers often have more than one manager so ultimately the decision of what makes their own today's Hot List must rest with the persone accountable for the completion of the Task or sub task and not their manager
