Is there a way to nudge on things you know people have missed because they've not commented on them? People who are older or not as used to tech, sometimes need to be nudged in ways that are suitable for them as much as everyone else.
I'd like to be able to select a comment and nudge people about it. does this exist already?

yes, you can copy link of a comment (click "Edit comment" in right side of the comment you want to denote, copy it) and paste it in newly created by you comment, then type @ symbol and choose user to notify him as Joshua Robison did. Post it. So user will be notified and he will see link of the comment you want him to answer.
