#2389: Quire Feedback
Status: To-do

The up/down movement of a task should not destroy hierarchy!

Promotion and demotion in hierarchy should be achieved with the left/right shortcuts.

This sensibility is based on decades of working with hierarchical organization tools where moving a task up/down keeps the task within its hierarchical level.

What's more important than adhering to established UI norms is that they make sense in the UX. In this case the established norms, that are being broken by Quire, do make practical sense.

It's more efficient to work within a hierarchical layer when organizing tasks. Prioritizing a top level task up one space should take one Ctrl-up maneuver, not twenty or so maneuvers up through all the subtasks of a sibling task.

Demoting higher level tasks when merely trying to change it's vertical position is prone to error. It's too easy to misplace tasks. It's too easy to pop a top level task into the lowest subtask of a neighboring top level task. A muti-layer demotion should not be conflated into a single up/down maneuver. The Ctrl-left/right shortcuts already serve that purpose.

I'm a fan of creating new and better conventions. But Quire's current behavior is a downgrade in organizational UX.

I do see that tasks can move up/down without demotion if all surrounding tasks have been collapsed. That's a cumbersome requirement that impedes smooth and easy re-prioritization. We want an organizational tool that is an improvement or is as easy and intuitive to navigate as the tools Quire is replacing.

Thank you, @peggy for both relaying the feedback to the Devs and suggesting a decent workaround.

Hi @backup4g , I suggest you use the keyboard shortcut to cut and paste the tasks into your preferred position. However, regarding your feedback, I will make sure our Dev team knows about it.
