#2642: Quire Feedback
Status: To-do

Quire would be an excellent outliner and could be used for writing documents with other people. The list hierarchy should be translated to different headings (H1, H2 etc.) on export, e. g. to *.odt (Libreoffice, Openoffice) or *.docx (Word, but Libreoffice should read it). Text written in the task fields would become text paragraphs. Is such an export considered by Quire? Thanks!

Has this point made any progress? Export could also be to RTF or HTML, which then could be imported to Libreoffice, Word etc.

Hi @michael.logies - Unfortunately, this feature request isn't in our consideration and hadn't been prioritize yet, that's why I wasn't be able to update this thread.

Hi @michael.logies , thank you for your suggestion. Currently, this kind of feature isn't in our consideration. I think there are other solutions out there more suitable for this feature, such as Google Docs, etc.

@Peggy, @Joshua Robison. Yes, I`m asking for an export format everybody could use and would like. *.csv and *.json are not simple enough, compared to the ease of use of Quire itself.

Michael Logies, Dec 14, 2019

@Peggy, @Joshua Robison But printing only delivers the outline, not the text field of the task. And copy & paste from a PDF into another text is much too cumbersome and error prone for longer lists and deeper hierarchies.

@Peggy No, Google Docs cannot be used as an outliner as it would be easily possible with Quire. Here what Google writes (as other sources) about its outliner feature: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/6367684?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en So the outline feature in Google Docs can only be used to navigate in the text, it cannot be used to move around the text itself. For doing the latter you would need a tool like "Scrivener" or "Writing Outliner", but both are not cooperative tools for the cloud. You already have decent export formats (*.CSV, *.json) which should be a good start for an export into a text format. I`m only a power user, not a programmer, otherwise I would write such a tool myself.

Hi @michael.logies , noted, exporting to .doc file isn't in our current plan. If I have any related update, I will make sure to let you know in this thread.

P.S. I have edited the Feedback title, so other users looking for similar feedback could find this thread. Hope you don't mind.

Hi @michael.logies , yes, you're right, you would only be able to copy the task names from a PDF file. Please let our team chew more on this.

Peggy, Dec 19, 2019

Hi @joshuarobison.biz , we do support exporting into PDF file. Go to Print and then save as PDF.
