#3054: Quire Feedback
Status: To-do

I am deleting my Quire account after using Android app for the past six months.

My expectations were to plan the future projects and tasks, see the overview of upcoming day and week, track my progress and have a sense of accomplishment when looking at the past tasks.

The reality turned into fighting with user interface all the time.

  • Marking the task done should be easy, one click and it's done, right? Not in Quire.
  1. click on the task
  2. click on radio button
  3. select from dropdown menu "Completed"
  4. click "back arrow" to get back to task list Just four simple clicks to complete the task. Great!
  • There is no upcoming week overview by default, so I need to go to "My Tasks" and set up filters: active tasks and filtered by date. Most of the times it worked fine, but sometimes the app lost filter settings and switched to showing all the tasks including accomplished. That forced me re-enabling the filters. It's a bit annoying.

But all got worse after April update to a brand new chapter for all of mobile users - Quire 5.0 release!

  • Now after marking task accomplished there is a toast notification message appears on the top of the screen with "Undo" button. It hangs for 3 seconds and disappears. Should be nothing serious, but it covers "back arrow" button and now marking the task accomplished and getting back to task list takes 4 unnecessary clicks and becomes 3 seconds longer. Super annoying!

  • The worst thing is that marking the task accomplished resets all the filters and switches to "show all tasks" mode. Now it renders all my accomplished tasks for the past 6 months. Yes, it does it very quickly, considering the amount (great optimisation work!). BUT it automatically scrolls down and renders hundreds of tasks that I don't care any more. This happens after marking EACH task!!! Enough is enough, I am deleting my account and uninstalling Quire app. Thank you, but no. Never again. The worst user experience ever.

I am fed up with all those task management apps that just eat my time on unnecessary clicks and unproductive user experience.

I guess I am switching to Bullet Journal, pen and paper. It covers all I need:

  • planning future projects and tasks
  • see upcoming week tasks
  • track my progress and tasks statuses
  • track time spent
  • see past weeks/months/projects
  • have a sense of accomplishment

Cheers, M.

hi Peggy, thanks for your reply.

  1. Swipe right to complete the task. Thanks, that improves experience a lot. It's a shame I've never discovered this before, would have saved me a lot of nerves going through all those clicks.

  2. Swipe up to remove undo message. It's good there is an option not to wait 3 seconds. On the other hand now completing task takes not 4 but 5 moves: (1) click on the task (2) click on radio button (3) select completed (4) swipe up to remove undo message (5) click back arrow to get back to list

  3. Losing filter settings in My Tasks. That happens occasionally, about once in 1-2 weeks. I don't have specific steps to reproduce. My default use case is to open an app and expect it to be where I left it last time - at My Tasks with all the filters set. I use active tasks and by date filters. This way it gives me an overview of overdue tasks, current day and upcoming days. Most of the time it works like this. But sometimes I open the app and it drops the filters to all tasks.

  4. After returning from the task to the list resets filters. This is super frustrating. I do one action (click to get back to the list) but get two things done (getting back to the list and changing list representation). I don't know your reasons to implement it this way but to me it looks absolutely unexpected and annoying. Clicking back button I expect to get back to the list and see it the way I left it, but I get an unexpected mess instead. WTF? Screencast: https://photos.app.goo.gl/RWQfUGhghApx383m8

  5. Will put on hold deleting my account. Although stop using it for a while due to issues described above.

Cheers, Maksym

@maksym - re: feedback number 4 (After returning from the task to the list resets filters), this was a bug, and it had been fixed. Thank you for the screen record.

Hi @maksym , we are sad to hear that you are leaving Quire, but we still appreciate you giving us your feedback!

There's an easier way to complete a task in Quire, you can just swipe right until the green complete icon appear. In the new update, we did add an undo message at the top, this is to prevent some users from completing the wrong tasks accidentally and providing a way for them to restore it quickly. You could dismiss the message by swiping up on the message.

As for "lost filter settings in My Tasks" issue that you have mentioned, unfortunately, we haven't encounter this issue on our side and weren't able to reproduce it. If it's not much trouble, would you mind providing the reproduce steps so we could have a better picture of what has happened?

Lastly, for the other case: after completing the task in detail panel and returning to the list view, the filter will be switched to All Tasks. We will have more internal discussion on this spec. Thank you again. Have a nice day.
