#4491: Quire Feedback

For anyone following this, I figured out a partial work around.

However, it only works for sublists which consist of a single "root" level task and have all the remaining tasks as subtasks under this "root" level parent.

If your sublists meet the above restriction, you can achieve the outcomes I described in my earlier comments by doing the following:

  1. Move all your sublist "root" level tasks to the top of your project
  2. Optionally place all the sublists under a "sublists" parent task
  3. Expand/collapse the sublists (or the optional "sublist") task as needed

Hi Yozza - This isn't a bug. When you grouped by a property/option (Tag, Date, Assignee, etc), you cannot drag and drop to move/reorder the tasks. You can only drag and drop the task to another group to change the property/option.

As for the suggestion, I will pass it to our team and we shall think about it. Since this involves changing the tree structure, there might be difficulties for this to be implemented. I will keep you posted if I have any updates. Thanks!

ahhhh so I see that this matches the behavior for group by Priority, Status, Tag, etc.: allowing you to set Priority, Status, Tag, etc. by drag and drop. (I haven't used the group mode much before)

This implementation thus poses the tradeoff when grouping: allow setting task attributes via drag and drop at the expense of moving tasks.

I personally think that this tradeoff isn't worth it: you can always set these task attributes by right clicking instead, however, it's not possible to move tasks at all...

However, while I can potentially see the benefit of setting Priority, Status, Tag, etc., via drag and drop, this is completely unnecessary for sublists as you can already set this via drag and drop using the top tabs!

If people really like the ability to set attributes by drag and drop in the group mode, potentially a tick box in the group menu could solve this? e.g. "drag and drop to change attribute" ?

Hi @peggy, apologies, yes I saw that after I explored the other "group modes".

Yes, I understand that it could be confusing/complex for other attributes (Priority, Status, Tag, etc.) as it would only make sense to change task hierarchy within a given group/attribute (e.g. all tasks with the same tag). This would then mean two different behaviors for the same drag and drop action: 1) moving between group/attribute would change the attribute, while 2) moving within the group/attribute would change the hierarchy. Far from ideal.

However, this issue doesn't exist for sublists.

I was excited to find the group by sublist option as I wanted to be able to:

  1. see all my sublists on one screen. I also really liked that I could expand and collapse sublists as necessary!
  2. be able to easily drag and drop tasks not only to add them to a sublist (as you can already do using the horizontal tabs), but to add them to a sublist in the exact position in the hierarchy that I wanted. Currently this is a three step process: a) drag to sublist tab, b) select sublist tab, c) drag within sublist.

Thanks!
