#5243: Quire Feedback
Status: To-do

Hi Peggy,

I love using shortcuts, and keyboard-only usage is the best for me.

The only thing that prevents me from using keyboard-only in Quire is that there is no way to create tasks one by one.

Pressing Enter creates the task and automatically starts creating a new task underneath. I like this behaviour sometimes, but it prevents from creating tasks one-by-one.

Also, pressing Escape when typing a new task erases the whole thing. I did not expect that. The way I see it, using Escape just cancels the current thing and brings back into navigation mode. But in modern web apps, it does not erase what we were typing.

For instance in Gmail, typing a new mail and hitting Escape saves the mail as a draft. In GCalendar creating an event and hitting Escape prompts for confirmation before erasing the event. In Notion, hitting Escape goes back into navigation mode. On Twitter, it prompts for confirmation before deleting. On Facebook, it reduces the size of the modal but keeps the text that was being typed. In a search bar on the Web, hitting Escape loses the focus but keeps the texts that was being typed.

So, an option in the settings to change to behaviour of the Enter key (or even better I think, the Escape key) would be really useful to create tasks one-by-one.

Thank you 🙇

Hi @gforien , thank you for your feedback!

You can use the shortcut T to create a new task one by one! I hope this is what you are looking for.

As for pressing Esc, unfortunately, this is our spec. When creating a brand new task, pressing Esc, our system will view the new task to be discarded automatically since you haven't really entered the task successfully.

However, if you edit an already existing task, pressing Esc, will bring you back to the navigation mode, since the task is already created and you are trying to escape the edit mode. I hope this makes sense!
