Progress and task completion as a background gradient

I know there's been a lot of talk about this feature, and I don't know if this has already been proposed. Here's my take on it. It can be displayed when I press the CTRL key and as a "View... Progress" setting.

P.S. Maybe it would make sense to group all related/duplicate bug reports and suggestions under the same "folder" in this forum? Like:

SEARCH PROGRESS / COMPLETION INDICATORS KEYBOARD SUPPORT

To make it easy to view and report things and avoid duplicate entries.
