I think the app should be the same as the web interface. I don’t quite see a reaso, that they are so different at the moment. Even though I have the app, I never use it because the web interface is better. (the option to apply saved filters is great and sadly missing from the app!)
On the app, when I click the task status, I get another option to mark it ‘in progress’. Although some users may want this, this is a really bad idea! One of the finer arts of software design is knowing when not to give users some functionality, in order to keep your app useable. One of the reasons people use a check box app instead of just a text file, is the ‘tap to mark done’ function. Its central and should not be compromised. (It’s also really bad task/project management to have tasks at the bottom of a tree that are not executable in one sitting). Please remove it, or only add it as an option for users to turn on!!
It’s actually called ‘Task status’ in the app. (See screen shot.) I feel very strongly this should be a ‘one click’ action

By "clicking on the task status”, did you mean clicking on the "complete" icon in a task's detail view? In case you did not know, you can swipe a task and tap to complete it in the tree (task list) view.
