📖 How to use this template

A roadmap that connects your vision to the initiatives, timelines and milestones that make it real. The sample is a fictional company's year, so you can see how it fits together before you replace it.

  1. Duplicate this project into your own organization (dropdown next to the project name, then Duplicate)
  2. Start with the vision. Open 🎯 Strategic Vision & Objectives and rewrite the vision and objectives (OKRs) to match your company or product. Everything else should ladder up to these.
  3. Fill in your initiatives. In 🚀 Key Initiatives, replace the examples with the 5–8 big bets you're making this year. Give each one an assignee, a start and due date, and a department tag.
  4. Set your phases. In 📅 Phases & Milestones, adjust the quarterly milestones to match your own planning cycle.
  5. Switch to Timeline view (view switcher at the top of the task list) to see the whole year laid out. Drag a task to reschedule it and the dates update automatically.
  6. Track progress with statuses. Move each item through To-do → In progress → In Review → Completed, and flag anything slipping as At Risk or On Hold.
  7. Review regularly. Use the Quarterly Business Review document to run your quarterly check-ins.

🗂️ What's inside

  • 🎯 Strategic Vision & Objectives — Your north star: the vision, mission, and the measurable objectives (OKRs) everything ladders up to.
  • 🚀 Key Initiatives — The major bets for the year, each broken into deliverables and spread across the timeline.
  • 📅 Phases & Milestones — Quarterly gates and key checkpoints that anchor the roadmap in time.
  • ⚠️ Dependencies & Risks — Cross-team dependencies and the risks that could derail delivery, each with an assignee and a mitigation.
  • 💰 Resources & Investment — The budget and headcount behind each priority.
  • 🗣️ Stakeholders & Communication — Who needs to be kept in the loop, and how often.

👀 Views to try

  • Timeline — the best way to read a roadmap. Initiatives show as bars, milestones as diamonds, across the whole year.
  • Board — group by status to run execution like a Kanban workflow.
  • Tree / List — the default outline, grouped by section.

🏷️ Statuses, tags & sublists

  • Statuses: To-do, In progress, In Review, At Risk, On Hold, Completed, so the health of every item is visible at a glance.
  • Department tags: Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance. Tag each item by the team that owns it, then filter or color the timeline by department.
  • Sublists (saved cross-cutting views): 🏁 Key Milestones, ⭐ Top Priorities, and ⚠️ Needs Attention pull the most important items together no matter which section they live in.

📎 Documents

Open the project's documents for the Strategic Roadmap Charter, Risk Register, Stakeholder & Communication Plan, and a Quarterly Business Review template, all ready to fill in.

💡 Tip: A roadmap is a living plan, not a one-time document. Revisit it at the start of every quarter, re-baseline your dates, and update statuses so it stays a source of truth your team actually trusts.
