#1254: Quire Feedback
Status: Completed

In the Description field here on the Web, I am typing # 1, # 2, etc (without a space between the # and the number).

And my text gets automatically converted or linked to some task - and I don't want that. I simply want to say: (without the space)

# 1 Wash the dishes # 2 Feed the fishes # 3 Call Mom (without the space), and instead, Quire is doing this:

#1 #2 #3

This is very, very inconvenient (annoying) - the program is fighting with the user. Not everyone wants or likes the shorthand/codes, many users just really want to type plain text. There are many, many times when Quire interferes and converts my text to its own formats (bold, or large size, or linking to other tasks - and I just really want PLAIN TEXT). Please don't fight with the user - it's not a winning game.

I press the Escape key when the auto-suggestion pops up, after I type the #, but I don't know if that does anything.

MS Word originally had very inconvenient auto-text formatting for bullets, numbers, etc - but later they perfected it, so the feature helps the user instead of driving them mad :-)

My recommendation: provide a toolbar with these formatting options instead of using some hidden shorthand/symbolic detection. If I want to link, let me click the LINK TO TASK button. If I want BOLD, I'll click the BOLD button. That's the way to do it. I specialize and consult companies in maximum usability and user experience. Please care for your users, and they will love you forever.

As a user who likes shortcuts and codes (Markdown), I'd very much prefer to have an option to switch between Markdown and plain text, that way users like OP don't need to use what he doesn't need, and I don't have to use crappy toolbars to use formatted text.

I think the way I describe it is far more convenient for us both, and obviously it'd be nice to be able to hide/show the toolbar, so if you like it you use it, otherwise you write Markdown sintax directly.

Sure, that works for both types of users. Just please keep in mind that the toolbar I'm describing would be really small and only positioned above the description text field, similar to Gmail's message formatting toolbar. It can be hiddenable (tm).

I fully support giving superpowers to Advanced users, as long as that functionality doesn't interfere with the most basic tasks of the regular users.

Cheers ☺️
