Some of my tasks have quite lengthy notes added in the description field. I have encountered a consistent problem when I want to edit those notes, specifically when I want to insert a new line towards the top of the existing text.
Here are steps to replicate the problem:
- Double-click a task that has a long description in it
- Click pencil icon to edit description
- Edit mode is activated and cursor is placed at end of note
- I use the scrollbar to move to the top of the notes where I want to insert my new line, but Quire instantly drops back out of edit mode.
The workaround is to click back into edit mode and then use the cursor keys or Page Up, but I keep forgetting and this is quite a frustrating limitation.
What I would like to propose (in ascending order of priority) is that:
- Use of the scrollbar does not cancel edit mode
- There should be a pop-out view to provide a larger area to read and edit the details within a task.
- Edit mode can be activated simply by double-clicking anywhere within the description field, rather than having to click the pencil icon.
- A separate view and item type could be added for note-taking that does not necessarily relate to a task (i.e. has no status, and just has an option to archive instead of tick to complete).
- Finally, whilst I'm offering up my shopping list... 😃 The markdown support is great, but it would be good to have a mini toolbar to select formatting such as bold, bullets, tick boxes etc.
Point 1 is my primary concern and seems like a bug or perhaps just an unforeseen scenario; points 2 - 5 are very much 'nice to have' but would really enhance usability in my view.
Thanks!
Hi @peggy, thank you for reply and for passing on my suggestions.
I take your point about the existing panel, but I do find on items with a lot of notes that even the pinned panel is still a bit too restrictive - as is common these days, I have a large, widescreen monitor with plenty of space but am unable to use much of that space when updating details in Quire, so it just feels a bit cramped. I realised that I can resize the panel so that will be a good workaround for now, although I don't always need the panel to be that wide (as some items have few or no notes) so I still feel like a popout option would be a neater solution for this scenario.
Thanks for the link on item 5 - I am now following that.
Best wishes.

Hi Turner - About point number 3, you may try our keyboard shortcut d. When a task is inspected/selected, hitting d on your keyboard will enter the edit mode for the description area right away. I hope this is a quick solution for this request.

Hi @peggy, thank you - that's a really good tip! I had forgotten about the shortcuts so I will definitely be using that now. 😃

Hi Turner - For point number 1, we have fixed this in the latest version update. Please refresh your Quire page to get the latest version. It should still be in edit mode when you use the scroll bar to scroll up and down. 👍

Hi Turner - Thank you for your feedback. We will pass all your points and suggestions to our Product team for more discussion. If we have any updates or changes made, we will let you know.
About point number 2, we feel like a pop up window for the description area will be a little bit repetitive with the detail panel if pinned.
As for point number 5, here's a similar thread with related topic: #1214. You may refer to that thread for more update.
