Repeating task clutter

Is there a way to simplify the record of repeating tasks? I have several tasks which need to be done every few days. I'd like to see ONE line on the timeline view that shows grey boxes for each day it was done. As it is now, there is a new line created every time it repeats. That's making a huge amount of visual clutter, unless I spend a lot of time deleting the completed tasks.
