I've been loving the custom fields since they got introduced last year! However, I find it such a shame that they only work (fully) on project level.
Therefore, I would like to make a request for "global custom fields". In other words, to make the custom fields also applicable to smart folders, so that I can filter/group/sort by them on smart folder level. And thus also create automated sublists on smart folder level based on these global custom fields. If custom fields would work for even the entire organisation, that would be awesome. But them working for smart folders would already help greatly.
To give my personal use case example:
I create a personal sublist 'Today's Tasks' with tasks I have chosen to tackle today (out of all the tasks I could do). This sublist is created automatically by showing only the tasks that have the CheckBox custom field 'Today's Task' checked. Similarly, I have a CheckBox custom field for tasks that need to be completed on site (i.e. cannot be done remotely).
Right now, I have to copy these custom field and have to recreate the sublist for each new project. And I cannot filter for them globally either.
This is the sole reason why I am still unable to use "projects" as how they usually are intended: as a completable "overall task". Instead I have a fixed set of continous projects; so that I can filter and sort by my custom tags "globally".

Thank you for your feedback.
While there isn't a global custom field feature yet, there's a workaround that might work for your needs in the meantime.
You can copy custom fields between projects, so if you set up the fields you want in one project, you can replicate them across your other projects. Once that's done, you can use Table view at the organization level to view the custom fields in all those projects together. Here's the guide on how to copy fields.
On the original request itself, I don't have any new progress or specific timeline to share, but I'll let you know if there's any updates.
