Subtasks can only be added in the main List view/ Sublist view by click on the subtask icon or hitting Enter then Tab in edit mode. (See this guide: https://quire.io/guide/add-task/#add-a-subtask)

However, you can see the first level of subtasks listed out in the detail panel. (Check out this guide: https://quire.io/guide/subtask-stats/)

You can also use markdown to create a checklist in the task description. (See here: https://quire.io/guide/styling/#checklist). Hope this helps.
