Board Columns in Quire Permalink

In Board View, tasks are organized into columns to help you visualize progress and workflow. By default, tasks are grouped by status, but Quire allows you to customize how columns are displayed, added, edited, hidden, or removed.

Shuffle Board Columns

You can change how tasks are grouped on the board by shuffling columns based on different properties.

  1. Switch to the Board View.
  2. Click the Board icon on the right-hand side of the main panel.
  3. Choose how you want to shuffle columns from the dropdown menu.

You can shuffle columns by:

  • Status – Track overall project progress
  • Priority – Focus on the most critical tasks
  • Assignee – Monitor team workload distribution
  • Tag – Group tasks by category or label
  • Date – Visualize schedules and deadlines
  • Section – Break projects into structured phases

Tip: Press 2 to switch to Board View. Press 2 again to open the dropdown menu, then use number keys or arrow keys to navigate options.

Add Board Columns

You can add columns when the board is shuffled by Status, Tag, or Section.

Status Column

In the Free Subscription plan, you can have up to 5 statuses in each project. Upgrade your subscription plan to create more statuses. More information can be found on our pricing page.

  1. Shuffle the board by Status. Default status columns in Quire board view

  2. Click Add status to the right of existing columns, or hover between columns to reveal the option.
  3. Enter the status name.
  4. Set a progress percentage and color. Hover between columns to add a new status in Quire board view

Note:

  • Progress percentages below 100% must be unique.
  • Multiple 100% columns are allowed (e.g., Canceled, Won’t Do).
  • Tasks in 100% columns are hidden when filtering by Active Tasks in Tree View.

Tag Column

  1. Shuffle the board by Tag.
  2. Click Add tag to the right of existing columns, or hover between columns.
  3. Enter the tag name.
  4. Choose a color and visibility scope.

Section Column

  1. Shuffle the board by Section.
  2. Click Add section to the right of the columns. Add a new section column in Quire board view

  4. Enter the section name.

Edit Board Columns

You can edit columns when the board is shuffled by Status, Tag, or Section.

  1. Click the More options icon on the column.
  2. Select Edit status, Edit tag, or Edit section.
  3. Update the column details as needed.

Move Board Columns

You can rearrange the column order visually.

  1. Click and drag a column header.
  2. Drop it in the desired position.

Note: Newly created columns are added to the far right by default.

Hide Board Columns

You can temporarily hide columns to reduce visual clutter.

To hide a column:

  1. Click the More options icon on the column.
  2. Select Hide column or Hide column for everyone.

  • Use the column menu to make it visible again for all members.

To hide all empty columns:

  1. Click the Board icon.
  2. Select Hide empty columns.

Tip: Press 2 in Board View to open the dropdown menu and navigate options quickly.

Peekaboo Tasks by Column

Peekaboo-ing a task is only available in the Professional, Premium, Enterprise plans. More information can be found on our pricing page.

Peekaboo temporarily hides tasks that are not actionable.

  1. Click the More options icon on a column.
  2. Select Peekaboo all tasks in this column.

Note: Peekaboo tasks reappear automatically after 7 days if not completed. You can also find them via the filter bar under Peekaboo tasks.

Delete Board Columns

You can permanently delete columns when using Status, Tag, or Section shuffling.

  1. Click the More options icon on the column.
  2. Open Edit status or Edit tag.
  3. Select Delete.

Note: Deleted columns cannot be recovered.


Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to tasks in a 100% progress status column in Quire?

Tasks in 100% progress columns are treated as completed and hidden when filtering by Active Tasks in Tree View. Multiple 100% columns are allowed (e.g., Canceled, Won’t Do), but all non-100% progress values must be unique.

How do I change how columns are grouped in Quire Board View?
